Our Farms

Five farming families make up the Cig Mynydd Cymru partnership. They are Mike and Cath Roberts from Penrhiwgwaith; Sue Williams and her family from Garth Farm; Lorraine Howells from Cwm carno; Huw Williams and his mother in law, Pat Wigley, from Glynmil / Cwm Blacks and the organic farmers John and Celia Thomas from Penrhiw.

Penrhiw Farm
‘Penrhiw’ Farm is a typical family run hill farm nestling on the valleyside overlooking the Taff Bargoed river. The farm has been in the Thomas family for at least four generations becoming fully organic in July 2001 having completed just over 2 years in conversion.
Cwm Carno Farm
I live at Cwm Carno Farm in Drenewydd, Rhymney. It is a hill farm rising up to 1200 feet. The farm is at the top of the Rhymney Valley in Caerphilly County. Most of the farm has been mined for coal by opencast methods.
Cwm Blacks
Huw Williams and his wife, Ruth, farm at Cwm Blacks Farm, Merthyr Tydfil. The farm of 680 acres is owned by Ruth's parents, Pat and Donald Wigley. Huw hails from Pontsticill where his family still farm.
Garth Uchaf Farm
Garth Uchaf Farm, Pentyrch is a traditional Welsh hill family farm, run by Sue Williams and her family. The farm is 230 hectares plus 180 hectares of common grazing on the adjoining Garth Hill, and rises to just over 1000 ft above sea level.
Michael and Catherine Roberts live with their four sons at Penrhiwgwaith Farm which is located on the Bedwellty Hill overlooking the Shirhowy Valley.
